Woody Tells Madison-Jefferson County Shelter to Stop Inhumane Killing
Former Hanover resident and Hanover College alumnus Woody Harrelson, best known for his starring roles in the TV sitcom Cheers and in blockbuster films like White Men Can’t Jump and Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, has a message for the Madison-Jefferson County animal shelter: Please stop freezing animals alive. On behalf of PETA, Harrelson has written to the Madison mayor and city council and the Jefferson County Commission, imploring them to order the shelter to stop killing lost, stray, and abandoned animals with inhumane, antiquated gas chambers and to implement the recommended—and most humane—procedure for euthanasia: lethal injection of sodium pentobarbital.
